Keeping Up with Innovations in Advanced Manufacturing by Stephanie Valere
The world around you is constantly changing. It is happening so fast you may not be able to tell that innovation is occurring within the blink of your eye. These innovations are used to improve the products we use and the processes in which we obtain them. This is what is known as Advanced Manufacturing.
In manufacturing, items we use every day are created on a large scale, however, the typical day-to-day person is not thinking about how their computer is made, how their air conditioner works, and how the table they purchased was milled. As a society, we are more concerned with the small details of everyday life. We focus on the traffic to work, our home life, bills that are due, and which shows to binge watch on television.
When we begin to ponder on how the items we use everyday are created, we begin to open our minds to the field of manufacturing, and suddenly things that never crossed your mind before become much more important. You begin to wonder how your car was made, how the keyboard you type on was developed, and where your iPhone is produced.
Every item you touch, you wear, you sit on, has been manufactured and advanced manufacturing is the incorporation of technology that improves upon how those items are developed.
There are hundreds of thousands of US manufacturing companies that are producing goods and there is a high demand for skilled workers to fill open positions.
The field of Advanced Manufacturing is estimated to have 4.6 million manufacturing jobs to fill by 2028*. The more skills you have in this field; the more valuable as a skilled worker you become.
