Not every student knows exactly what they want to do with the rest of their life. It's a big decision that takes time and sometimes requires help from family and friends. Vocademy's Maker Skills Academy offers a unique skills discovery program for creative, hands-on learners.
Our academy is a 6-month, intensive, hands-on skills program ideal for young adults looking for unique career opportunities, adults of any age looking to expand their job skills, and those wanting to become #FutureProof. The MSA is the best way to learn a breadth of unique skills to a fundamental level.
Over the course of six months, each team of six to eight students will take 115 individual classes and in a dozen subjects. During this time students will have also access to all of our tools and technology to complete individual and team projects. The program includes an opportunity to create a final capstone project encompassing the many new skills they have learned.
Maker Skills Academy offers significant benefits when compared to traditional trade school programs. Rather than enrolling in an expensive, single skill, multi-year mastery program, Vocademy students have the ability to learn the fundamentals of a dozen in-demand skills in a fraction of the time.
Spanning over 12 manufacturing disciplines, students are exposed to a wide-array of traditional and state-of-the-art manufacturing processes.
Everything you need to excel in your core classes is included. You'll need to provide your own supplies and materials for personal and team projects
Upon completing Maker Skills Academy, students can test for several recognized industry certificates, like the D9.1 from the American Welding Society.

MakerLab access allows students to perfect technical skills learned during class time. Available every weekday from 4pm-10pm.
Along with an impressive resume of new skills, students receive official certificates of completion for each course demonstrating their proficiency in each subject area.
Bring your ideas to life by learning the fundamentals of Computer Aided Design, 3D Printing, Laser Cutting & Engraving, Plastics, Vacuforming, Resin Casting, Silicon Molding, and more.
Our Welding & Fabrication Fundamentals Course creates competitive graduates by teaching the fundamentals of fabrication, plasma cutting, sheet metal, MIG & OXY welding, and more. Upon completion students can test for a certification from the American Welding Society.
Learn the fundamentals of sewing and textiles skills needed for careers in alterations, wearables, costume making, fashion, and more.
Learn the essential skills of traditional and modern woodworking for opportunities in fine woodworking, cabinetry, furniture, instruments, set-building, and more.
This course is a combination of essential electronics knowledge and the latest electronics skills. Hardware coding is also included for the creation of physical devices.
Learn the fundamentals of traditional milling, lathe and all essential shop equipment in order to machining to precisely shape parts for use in manufacturing, aerospace, and more. Upon completion, students can test for a certification from the National Institute of Metalworking Skills.
This course consists of fundamental subjects that are essential to personal and professional success. Interview and Resume skills, Career Exploration, Time Management, Web Presence, Career Soft Skills, Project Management, and more.
Anyone age 17 and over can apply to Maker Skills Academy. The only requirements are a high-school diploma or GED equivalent. There are no GPA or transcript requirements
Yes, Maker Skills Academy is a full-time program, although there is space for some flexibility. Students can work part-time in the mornings until around noon. However, classes run in the early afternoon until the evening.
Upon completion, students are qualified for a number of entry-level positions in the manufacturing sector. Our in-house team works with students to discover their interests and goals and to link them to opportunities with local employers.
MakerSkills Academy is a serious program. Students spend upwards of 50 hours a week between classes, labs, workshops, and projects. It's important that potential students understand the commitment and dedication needed to be successful in the program. Additionally:

In addition to teaching students the fundamentals of advanced manufacturing, students are also required to take the Life Skills Course that teaches them fundamental skills to being an independent adult such as time management, healthy eating, fitness and more. Vocademy founder and CEO, Gene Sherman, also provides several mentorship sessions with students where he inspires them and ensures their capstone projects are progressing on schedule.
